In brief: CN: discussion of suicide
Y’all. Andrea Bartz’s debut novel is the best fiction I’ve read in at least a decade. I can’t even really tell you why without spoilers (though there are some mild spoilers in our conversation). I couldn’t put it down, reading the last 75 pages desperate for the end while desperate for it not to end.
But that’s not why I had her on the show. Everything is awful right now, making the pop culture realm especially worth celebrating for the way that minor moments and plot details/character descriptors move the needle on important issues of representation, identity, and social justice. “The Lost Night” flawlessly incorporates these moments, making it the perfect gift for your thriller-loving, not-so-social-justicey friends and family!
