In brief: The best voice in the business, David Perry, is back on the show! (Maybe it’s just me? Did I listen to too much NPR/terrestrial radio before we could stream things??) We chat about Gerber’s new spokesbaby, whether or not we’re watching the NFL this season (nope) and why, and a disabled former rodeo rider with a shot at being the first democratic governor in South Dakota since 1974.
Most of the interview, however, we interrogate the development of “smart pill” technology that send data to, well, whomever it’s programmed too. While there are certainly applications that make sense and could be helpful to patients as well as caregivers, the fact that a psychiatric medication is the first to get the “benefit” of this new technology is unsettling. David goes into the potential ramifications, especially for incarcerated or institutionalized people.
