In brief: [TW: rape/sexual assault]
I’m delighted to introduce you to Kimberly B. George, a badass intersectional feminist and ethics studies scholar. Her background is the perfect fit to dive into the allegations against Aziz Ansari whose coercive behavior may not have warranted an arrest, but is disturbingly common and especially alarming from a self-professed ally of the Time’s Up effort/movement. We wade into the murky waters between consent and assault — a space nearly every woman/femme who dates men has been; Kimberly adds context from history and her work; we both share personal stories and express admiration for the young woman (“Grace”) who shared her story. Despite the seemingly depressing topic, my brilliant guest tells us why the story gives her incredible hope for where we are and where we’re headed culturally.
