In brief: New intro/interview replay!
It felt like time to revisit this interview from November. Things are rough and the 30 second news cycle makes everything feel gross and reactionary; this clip is a reminder that movement work is done over time — typically generations. Author and editor-in-chief at Truthout Maya Schenwar was kind enough to do an extended, 101/201 level primer on prison abolition. We discussed what it means to be a prison abolitionist, dispelled myths, and went into some alternatives to our policing system. Spoiler tidbit: our current prison system was actually created in a reform effort.
