#BanAllWork, Promote Bodily Autonomy — #KatieSpeakShow Ep2 09/12/2015

In brief: Today’s diverse topics all come down to bodily autonomy and who is allowed to have it: my rant to take back the phrase “I can’t”; Melissa Gira Grant and I deciding to #BanAllWork over pumpkin pie; and Britni de la Cretaz and I putting our privileges in buckets.

Note: This show is available to stream and download for free so it can be accessible for everyone. If you’re able, consider becoming a supporter for as little as $1/month at PATREON or making a one-time donation through PAYPAL. Thank you!

Overview:

In my abbreviated intro rant I tell the story about the show’s name. Once that 45 seconds is done, I show my favorite uncle a little love and assign homework: letting yourself off the hook for something you just can’t do because the phrase “I can’t” isn’t the failure indicator our hamster wheel cult of work would have you believe.

I simply don’t want to spoil either of these interviews. So I’ll just say that Melissa Gira Grant was up to the challenge of how to handle sex worker rights discussion over Thanksgiving dinner and Britni de la Cretaz tells you why Boston’s mayor is a “Garbage Pail human” right before delivering the quote of the show with some words for the health insurance industry.

No, I’m not going to address what happened in my Twitter feed right before and during the show. I’d just be writing her next fundraising email.

Quote of the Show: “I don’t think it’s asking a lot for our insurance companies to cover the treatment that we need,” — Britni de la Cretaz
