In brief: WELCOME! In my inaugural episode I do a little background and introduction on what this space is going to be. I also kick off my weekly news/culture rant and talk with three of my favorite people working in reproductive justice. Thanks for stopping by!

Enhanced audio: Greetings! & Repro Round-up — #KatieSpeakShow Ep1 09/05/2015

Overview:

Welcome! I had thoughts on the BLM demonstration at Hillary’s campaign event and a reminder to support GetEQUAL’s “LGBTQ Bill of Rights,” Whole Woman’s Health taking HB2 to the Supreme Court, and good news out of CA — the Reproductive FACT Act is on the governor’s desk!

The co-founders of ReproAction, Erin Matson and Pamela Merritt joined me to discuss their new organization and the #HeyPopeFrancis campaign. We talked about the compartmentalization on the “left,” “Electionitis,” and how to get involved with ReproAction.

Full-spectrum OB/GYN and sexual health educator Dr. Leah Torres stopped by to discuss her op-ed for RH Reality Check on why she wasn’t offended by the “cold” language in the Planned Parenthood “exposé” videos and how communication matters. We also talked about the important of communication in sexual health and consent. Spoiler alert: we both think communication makes sex better and are cheering on the trend toward enthusiastic consent standards.

Quote of the Show: “If you lift up one part of me without standing in solidarity of the whole of me, then that is not anti-oppression work.” — Pamela Merritt, ReproAction
