War on Women

….and the First Amendment.

Last week, I got the chance to chat with one of my favorite podcasters. He stands in stark contrast to the out of touch Congressmen, commentators and shock jerks who simply “don’t see what the big deal is” or have decided contraception is only an issue for sluts.

Matthew Filipowicz has treated the attack on women’s health and rights with both the outrage and matter-of-factness it deserves. His entire show is fantastic and I highly recommend checking out previous episodes.

Our chat starts at about the half-way point of this episode — #96:

Please take the time for his initial commentary on the end of the First Amendment — protesting in the vicinity of secret service personnel is now a federal felony punishable by ten years in prison — and stick around for his interview with the amazing Greg Palast.

You can find more of Matt at http://www.matthewf.net and more from Greg Palast at http://www.gregpalast.com.

  1. Finally got a chance to listen to this. You did an awesome job. I especially liked the way you broke down the “one choice/one moment” argument.

    • Thank you! That’s the most frustrating point for me. A woman’s “right to choose” gets parsed down to “choice” as though it’s one moment. The reality is that many choices are made before a woman sits down with her doctor and, in this country, most of those choices are made for her. If we had real, affordable, available preventative care with widespread education, we wouldn’t even be discussing this topic.
